The signature 10th Annual Images and Perceptions Diversity Conference, will be held at the illustrious Byblos Banquet Center in Dearborn, Michigan on Thursday, April 11, 2013 (8:30am to 2:30pm).
In Partnership with the NAACP, La Sed, SER, and the University of Michigan-Center for Middle Eastern Studies, the Conference explores the remarkable culture and diversity of the Arab American, African American, and Hispanic American communities, as it examines the images portrayed in media, film, and television, and their implication in education, government, and corporate America.
This year, we are pleased to announce three of our remarkable 2013 Conference Presenters: Detroit native, actor and comedian Keegan-Michael Key of Comedy Central’s “Key and Peele,” and MADtv, among other series; film and television actor Haaz Sleiman of Oscar and Screen Actors Guild Award Nominated film “The Visitor,” the film “American Dreamz,” and TV series appearances including: “ER,” “NCIS,” and “24;” John Woods, PhD, Professor of Iranian and Central Asian History, and of Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations, at the University of Chicago; and Victor Antonio, Author, Trainer, Motivational and Diversity Speaker, and CEO of a multimillion dollar high tech company.
Among over 500 guests in Detroit, our presenters in 2012 included a dynamic presentation by Reverend Dr. Wendell Anthony, President of the Detroit Branch NAACP and Guadalupe Lara, national motivational and diversity speaker.
Our Conference line-up in 2012 also included a riveting presentation by our keynote speaker, renowned Hollywood Producer and Director, Asaad Kelada (“One Day at a Time,” “Who’s the Boss,” “Facts of Life,” “Family Ties,” “Sister Sister,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “The Office,” “Dharma & Greg,” “Two and a Half Men”), who addressed the images Hollywood and the media have portrayed, and presented a rare view directly into the casting lens, along with an inside track of Hollywood’s depiction of our communities and the overall impact on our society.
The Conference also featured writer, director, filmmaker, and Toronto International Film Festival award winner 2012, Rola Nashef, who presented a special sneak peak of her 2012 movie debut of, "Detroit Unleaded," followed by a comedic performance by accomplished Hollywood comedian, film, and T.V. star, Mike Batayeh, who has appeared in “Sleeper Cell,” “Jag,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Breaking Bad,” and the Kiefer Sutherland show on FOX, “Touch.”
In previous years, the Conference has proudly hosted other renowned speakers including: Hollywood actress Kathy Najamy; Internationally acclaimed author and media critic, Dr. Jack Shaheen; Columbia University Scholar, Dr. George Saliba, and Ambassador Dr. Clovis Maksoud, among other esteemed trail-blazers in their respective fields.
Over the past 9 years, the Conference has hosted hundreds of participants which include members of TV, film, print and broadcast media; corporate and business leaders; educators; health-care professionals; human resource directors; diversity program managers; advertising, marketing and communications professionals; noted municipal and government employees including many elected state and local officials; law enforcement personnel; as well as community leaders from multiple diverse communities and vocations, from Metro Detroit and across the country.
As experienced by both presenters and attendees over the past 9 years, this year’s signature 10th Anniversary Images and Perceptions Diversity conference promises to be exceptionally momentous.
